When I was a kid, I wanted to be a drummer—but my mum wouldn’t let me have a kit. So I took a sideways step and, at age 14, picked up the guitar instead. Within two weeks of buying my first guitar (an old Top Twenty made by Woolworths), I was in a band. From that point on, I was completely obsessed with music in all its forms.
In those early years, I spent countless hours composing at home using four-track tape machines. I quickly discovered that recorded sound offered endless sonic possibilities. It opened up a whole new palette to experiment with – and so my second obsession began.
I started recording local bands as well as my own material, and eventually decided to turn audio engineering into a full-time career. After several years working in studios across the UK, I co-founded Pinna Studios in East London with Sonny Johns. It was here that I really found my footing as an ‘artist-first’ audio engineer.
Since then, I’ve worked across nearly every genre you can name—recording and mixing everything from opera to death metal. I’ve also performed as a session player, recorded live sound for TV shows, and composed soundtracks for short films.
